Radar – ARPA
Course Overview
This course covers navigation with Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) and Radar Simulator, passage planning, training in the use of Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), comprehensive knowledge of prevention of collisions at sea and competence in search and rescue, including a full understanding and expertise in the use of radar and ARPA.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, students should: –
- know how to operate radar; properly assess the navigational situation according to the radar and its capabilities.
- know and recognize radar errors; is aware of the radar’s limitations and its’ properties which can influence the wrong interpretation of the radar’s image.
- know how to use the radar plotting method; use ARPA radar for the identification of dangerous objects and plan collision avoidance in different circumstances.
- Be able to coordinate and perform search and rescue on the sea.
Entry Standards
No special requirements to approach the training. This course is intended to obtain a certificate in Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) – Operational level.
Examination and Assessment
Students shall be assessed through a written exam consisting of short answers and multiple-choice questions and a practical assessment at the end of the course.
