Deck & Cadet Training Programs
The Deck and Engine Cadet training programs are the initial stage in an established career progression towards certification as a ship’s captain or chief engineer. The cadets are essentially officers in training.
A Cadet on board a merchant’s vessel receives structured training and experience on board and learns how to become an officer.
You will graduate as a Cadet Officer upon successful completion of the following three (3) courses: –
- Navigation Watch Program;
- Engine Watch Program; and
- Electro-Technical Officer Program.
COURSES
Officer In Charge of Navigation Watch Program
A Navigation Officer trainee is referred to as a Deck Cadet and follows a 3-year training programme, which leads to initial certification as an Officer in Charge of a navigational Watch Deck Officer of the Watch (OICNW).
Officer In Charge of Engine Watch Program
An Engine officer trainee is referred to as an Engine Cadet and follows a 3-year training programme, which leads to initial certification as an Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW).
