Course Overview
A Navigation Officer trainee is referred to as a Deck Cadet and follows a 3-year training programme, which leads to initial certification as an Officer in Charge of a navigational Watch Deck Officer of the Watch (OICNW). The training consists of two years at AAMOTI and at least one year on board a seagoing ship by the cadet training manual and the STCW Code.
STCW II/1 Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) is an operational level STCW endorsement with tonnage limitations for the deck officer on a sea-going merchant ship.
