Course Overview
This course is both practical and theoretical, according to STCW – Code Table A-II/1 incl. Manila amendment 2010 and based on IMO model course 1.22 / model course 7.03. It consists of exercises performed on a ship handling simulator and Computer Based Training (CBT). It intends to define the individual task and responsibilities of the various team members while developing situational awareness to prevent individual errors.
Course Objectives
The trainees in this course will: –
- gain experience in handling ships under various conditions;
- understand how to make a more effective contribution to the bridge team during ship maneuvering in normal circumstances and emergencies;
- learn Bridge Resource Management techniques that will emphasize decision-making based upon conditions related to workload and potential threats to the vessel;
Entry Standards
Students should have a minimum of six months’ watch keeping experience as an officer in charge of a navigational watch and should also have completed a course of the training set out in IMO Assembly resolution A.483 (XII), training in radar observation and plotting.
Examination and Assessment
Students shall be assessed through a written exam consisting of short answers and multiple-choice questions and a practical assessment at the end of the course.
