Course Overview
This course provides training for officers in management and operation levels assigned specific duties and responsibilities related to emergency procedures on board, and search and rescue operations. It helps them to acquire the skills in visual tracking and map/compass orientation, ensuring that they are well trained on the different methods of search and rescue at sea. Also, it gives them an opportunity to be familiar and well trained about all emergent situations on board ship like fire, abandon ship or man overboard Etc.
Course Objectives
Provided they qualified by regulations II/1, II/2, III/1, and III/2 of the international convention on standards of training, certification, and watchkeeping for seafarers 1995, as amended in 2010, at the end of the training the capacity of the students will be increased to: –
- minimize loss of life;
- minimize injury;
- prevent property loss and damage; and
- maximize use of local resources in conducting SAR operation in an emergency.
Entry Standards
Every candidate for certification of an officer according to the STCW Code table A- II/1, table A-II/2, table A-III/1, table A-III/2 shall be required to demonstrate the competence to undertake this course.
Examination and Assessment
Students shall be assessed with a written exam consisting of short answers and multiple choice and a practical assessment at the end of the course.
