Ship Security Awareness
Course Overview
This course teaches students how to contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness, and helps them develop the ability to recognize security threats and respond appropriately.
Course Objectives
Students will: –
- Learn the meaning and the consequential requirements of the different security levels;
- Gain knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans;
- Be able to recognize and detect weapons, dangerous substances, and devices;
- Be able to recognize, on a non-discriminatory basis, characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security; and
- Understand techniques used to circumvent security measures.
Examination and Assessment
Students shall be assessed through a written exam consisting of short answers and multiple-choice questions and a practical assessment at the end of the course.
Entry Standards
The student will be serving seafarers or other shipboard personnel who will not be assigned specific security duties in connection with the Ship Security Plan.
